Every SurveyX project follows a clear, structured process — from the moment you get in touch through to your drawings landing in your inbox. Here's exactly what happens, when, and what you can expect at each stage.
No surprises. No ambiguity. Just professional survey data delivered on time.
Every project starts with an enquiry — either through our website quote form, by email to [email protected], or by phone. Tell us about your building, what drawings you need and any deadlines you're working to.
We aim to respond to all enquiries within 1 working day — either with a quote straight away or with any questions we need to prepare one accurately. If we need more information (floor count, approximate area, drawing types required) we'll ask upfront rather than guessing.
We provide a clear, fixed quote before any work begins. The quote sets out exactly what is included — the drawing types, file formats, scale, turnaround time and total fee including VAT. No vague day rates, no hidden extras.
The quote is issued as a signed document for you to review, approve and return. We don't begin any work until the quote has been accepted — so you're always in control of what you're committing to.
If you have any questions about the scope or pricing, we're happy to discuss before you sign. For larger or more complex projects we can arrange a brief call to talk through the requirements.
Once we receive your signed quotation, we confirm your survey date and send a booking confirmation. This sets out the survey date, estimated arrival time, expected duration on site and your agreed delivery date.
We coordinate any access arrangements with you at this stage — ensuring all areas included in the scope will be accessible on survey day. If there are any known access restrictions (locked rooms, restricted areas, out-of-hours requirements) we'll plan around them now rather than discovering them on the day.
On survey day, we arrive at the agreed time and carry out a thorough survey of all areas in scope using professional equipment — including the Leica BLK360 laser scanner for 3D scanning projects and precision measurement tools for measured building surveys.
We work systematically through the building, measuring room dimensions, ceiling heights, wall thicknesses, door and window openings, and all external features. For laser scanning surveys, the scanner is positioned at multiple stations throughout the building to capture a complete, high-density point cloud of every space.
Before leaving site we carry out a final check to confirm all areas have been captured — avoiding any need for a return visit. A project update email is sent to you confirming the survey is complete and data processing has begun.
Survey data is processed back in the office. For laser scanning projects, this means importing raw scan files into Autodesk ReCap, registering all scan positions into a unified coordinate system and cleaning the dataset to remove any noise or unwanted points.
For traditional measured surveys, field notes and measurements are checked and any ambiguities resolved before drawing production begins. All coordinates are referenced to an agreed datum — typically finished floor level — so levels are consistent throughout the drawings.
This processing stage ensures that the data the drawings are produced from is accurate, complete and internally consistent before any CAD work begins.
Drawings are produced in AutoCAD (for 2D surveys) or Autodesk Revit (for BIM models) using the processed survey data as the reference. For scanning projects, the registered point cloud is loaded directly into AutoCAD or Revit and used as the basis for tracing and modelling all building elements to the correct dimensions and positions.
All drawings are produced to a consistent in-house standard — fully layered with industry-standard layer names, correct line weights, drawing scales set in the sheet layout, and the SurveyX title block applied. CAD files are structured and named so they can be used immediately by your architect or design team without any cleanup.
Every set of drawings goes through a quality check before it leaves the office. This involves checking key dimensions against the raw survey data to verify accuracy, confirming all areas of the building have been captured and drawn, and reviewing drawing presentation for consistency, completeness and compliance with the agreed scope.
If anything looks incorrect or inconsistent, it's resolved before issue — not flagged for the client to spot. We'd rather take the extra time to get it right first time than issue something that needs correcting.
Once drawings are complete and quality checked, we issue the invoice. Drawings are released as soon as payment has been received — delivered via a secure Dropbox download link that gives you permanent access to your DWG and PDF files.
Delivery is on or before the agreed date set out in your booking confirmation. If for any reason we're running ahead of schedule, you'll receive your drawings early. Payment is by bank transfer, with details included on the invoice.
After delivery we follow up to make sure you're happy with the drawings and to deal with any amendments quickly. We want the drawings to work for your project — if anything needs adjusting, just let us know.
